A Gift for All

The sermon series, “All in the Family”, continues with 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. Paul writes to the Corinthian church so that they will not be “uninformed” about spiritual gifts. He is helping them to be able to discern a gift from God versus the fraudulent deceptions that were prevalent. Paul wants them to not fall victim to the idea that everyone is to be the same or manifest the same gift. God has provided a variety of gifts for the benefit of the whole body of the church and help propel the Gospel forward. A gift is given by God to be used in glorifying God.

Today we have the same problem Paul was contending with in Corinth. The difference for us is that instead of being uninformed we are more apt to be misinformed. Every believer is endowed with spiritual gifts, but not every believer uses them for God’s glory. Some never use them. Some use them to glorify self. Some use them but do not know they have them. Some confuse them with their strengths and personality. There are others who claim to have gifts from God which are deceptive lies meant to usurp God’s glory and misdirect His people. Do you know you have gifts designed by God and given by God to you? Are you using them? Are you using them properly? A gift given by God is a terrible thing to waste.
