BK’S KORNER
While on my way to work last week on garbage pick-up day I saw something that made my heart feel good. As I was approaching the garbage truck I noticed that he was stopped in front of a house that didn’t have a garbage can sitting out front. Soon I saw him coming down the driveway with a garbage can. He set it in place and then got in the truck to activate the arm that picks up and dumps the can in the truck. He waved me past and I watched as he got out of the truck and took the can back up the driveway and set it in place.
Now, I cannot really say for certain but I’m not sure he gets paid to do that. Maybe so, but it made my heart feel good in the moment thinking that he was doing something for someone that maybe they couldn’t do for themselves on that day. It reminded me that the world really does have good people. I think the media and social media would like us to believe that everyone is horrible. Everyone is out to get whatever they can and they don’t care how it may affect you. They show us so much evil and hatred that we begin to think that no one is considerate anymore. Once again, this incident just reminded me that there are still good people in this world who are kind and considerate.
The scriptures tell us to “… be kind to one another,…” Ephesians 4:32a. Kindness is also a fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22. Kindness should be a quality/character trait that is evident in the lives of people who follow Christ. One thing about Jesus that cannot be denied is that He practiced kindness. Whenever I think about being kind and considerate there is a verse that always comes to mind. Philippians 2:4. It says, “Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
You know if we practiced that verse we would be a kind and considerate people. We would be more like Christ. More people would be attracted to the Christ we follow. I’m going to close with something I’ve been hearing on the radio a lot lately that fits perfectly here,
“The world is full of kind people. If you can’t find one, be one”.
