Gathering With God’s People
Gathering With God’s People
The Church is the bride of Christ. She is the bride that He has purchased with His own blood. She is precious in the sight of God. Part of the beauty of belonging to the Church is remembering that as we gather together in local congregations, so do our brothers and sisters around the world. Though we do not all sing the exact same songs or even speak the same languages, our praises are all directed to the same Jesus.
This is the case within FBC also. We come from all types of backgrounds. There are some who were born and raised here, while others have moved here. There are multiple generations present every Sunday. We have people who like hymns and those who like contemporary Christian music. On and on the list could go, yet the same truth remains. Whatever our differences are, whatever reasons that could be given for us not to spend time together are swept away by the bond that we share in Christ. We are knit together as family. What a beautiful thing it is to have such a family.
No family is perfect. Every family seems to have an odd uncle or something to that effect. Yet, while not perfect, we are to “bear with one another in love” (Eph.4:2). You might be an odd duck. The person next to you on a Sunday morning might be an odd duck. Everyone's a little weird and that’s just fine. Yes, we will disagree on things. Yet we still serve and worship the same Lord.
Sunday is my favorite day of the week. Since I began following Christ my desire to gather with His people has only grown. To gather with the people of God for the express purpose of worshiping Him does good to the believer. To know God and to worship Him is our greatest delight. Anything that distracts from this would rob the Christian of the great joy found in their greatest delight. This is why we come together. We get to worship God.
As you go about your week I hope that you also look forward to Sunday. You and I get to gather together with the rest of God’s people who are committed to gathering at FBC for the express purpose of worshiping our Lord. What a joy! I hope to see you there.
Grace be with you,
C. R. Hamilton
