Another Day
Another Day
Today is a great day. As I am typing this, it is Monday, January 29th of 2024. Perhaps you would ask why it is a great day. You might think of Mondays as a dreadful thing and not think of them too fondly. So then, why is it a great day? Simply put, it is a great day because it is a day that the Lord has made. Today is another day that we, the followers of Christ, might seek to make much of Him. Let’s think about this for a moment.
The Apostle John reminds us that we are not to love the world or the things in the world (1 John 2:15). Part of following after Christ is turning from the world and being satisfied in Jesus. We are to no longer hold tightly to the things that once ensnared us. We are not to be conformed by the world any longer, but we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Rom. 12:2). As we follow Christ and are being transformed by the renewing of our minds, we no longer are to think like the world.
The world, at least in our context, tells us that Mondays are terrible and simply have to be trudged through like mud. You simply need to endure the week so you can get back to the weekend. The gospel frees us from viewing life this way. Consider the words of the Psalmist, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). As followers of Christ, we are freed from dreading the day because we know that this is a day given to us by the Lord.
Each day is a gift and an opportunity to make much of Jesus. You and I exist for His glory. No longer are we enemies of God but friends. We are sons and daughters that are able to be pleasing to our God. So, we make it our aim to please Him in all that we do. So, wherever you find yourself on a Monday or Thursday, remember that today is a fine day because it is given to us by the Lord. There is labor to be done for His glory. There are people to take the gospel to. There is worship to be ascribed to Him. So, don’t think like the world. Make the most of each day for the glory of God.
Grace be with you,
