A Woman Worth Remembering
A Woman Worth Remembering
Every year Southern Baptists take up a special collection around Easter. The Annie Armstrong Easter offering has become a normal occurrence in church life. But, who exactly is Annie Armstrong and why do we take up an offering with her name on it around Easter?
Annie Armstrong was a mighty woman of faith. It was her faith that compelled her to act. She cared for the poor and needy, helped missionaries in North America, wrote thousands of letters to seek the help of others in this endeavor, and so much more. She gave of her time, life, labor, and skills freely for the sake of Christ and His Church. She was determined to do all that she could so that the gospel would go forth, not only in her community, but beyond what her eyes could see.
Southern Baptists honor Annie Armstrong by keeping her legacy alive through this offering. The Annie Armstrong Easter offering goes directly to missionaries in North America. It provides them with funds to do all types of ministry in portions of North America where people do not know Jesus Christ. These funds will buy Bibles, provide clean water, food, clothes, construction materials, and more for the sake of Christ. It allows our missionaries to love their neighbors as themselves without worrying where the finances to do so will come from.
Annie Armstrong was a mighty woman of faith. She is a name to hold dear and to thank the Lord for. Through the Annie Armstrong Easter offering you and I get to participate in the legacy she left behind. So, remember Annie Armstrong, prayerfully consider giving to the Easter offering bearing her name, pray for North American missionaries, and be encouraged by the service of a mighty woman of faith. May God raise up more Annie Armstrongs.
