HIS FAITHFULNESS IS A SHIELD AND BULWARK . . .

I’ve been studying through Psalm 91 recently and it has brought me comfort in so many areas of my life.  

The enemy comes in and whispers so many things that cause me to fear or to condemn me.  It causes doubts and confusion. I read John 8:44 ”[the devil] was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.’ I read I Cor 14:16 “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” Even though God tells me not to worry, I do.  I do lay and think and come up with scenarios of what could happen, mainly with my children, and this can be such a detriment to my peace of mind.  I can also doubt myself.  If I don’t hang on to the word of God, I will not survive.  I am one who is totally dependent on His word every day.  

I am reminded daily that God is faithful.  He is my help and my comforter.  He is my protector and my guide. Psalm 91:2  “I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”  And 91: 9 “because you have made the Lord your dwelling place, the Most High, who is my refuge.” And 91:4 “his faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.”

I read in a book recently that according to Nelson’s Bible Dictionary “a bulwark is a tower built along a city wall from which defenders shoot arrows and hurl large stones at the enemy.” God is our protection and our shield.   A friend of mine recently told me that Psalm 91:4 is one of her favorites.  She said a bulwark indicates a complete covering.  She said she likes to think of it as being in an armored tank. I will take that tank!  Thank you, Lord for your faithfulness and protection.Thank you for Your Word!!
